lyrics

I’m stood a million miles from somewhere
Near where your pulses pushed the waves back to the sea
I know some more will try to get there
But I just can’t tell them where I don’t think you’ll be

And I smiled slightly when I saw that
They had posted all your secrets there for free
‘Cos I’d like to think that I could sit back
As if one day they won’t be coming round for me

And twenty years on, I’m still humming the song
That stole some smiles and scorched some memory
And when you think it’s gone, you hear them counting along
As you number every wave sent back from sea
I’m still having the dream …

I’m sat a thousand miles from somewhere
Scrolling past the past that keeps some truth from me
I don’t know if you know how to get there
Or if it’s just another point to disagree

I must admit I might have pulled back
To make some sense of the through line that I see
But if Argentina mountains were all pressed flat
I’d still find reasons I could doubt what I believe

And twenty years on, I know the words to the song
At least I tell myself that’s just how it should be
Maybe we’re gone, but who’s to say that I’m wrong?
You don’t know who pushed the waves into the sea.
I’m still having the dream …

Who am I to say that you’re not going away?
We’ve all seen things that we shouldn’t have seen
Who am I to ask if I could ever get past –
It never ends with me turning to leave.
I’m still having the dream …
